Gucce Restaurant, Applecross

A long time favorite in Applecross village has got to be Gucce’s restaurant.  The restaurant was opened probably 14 years ago by the current owners, who as a couple used to run front of house and the kitchen.  A friendly hostess and accomplished chef, Bas and Dom  run a good restaurant, always served interesting food and created a wonderfully warm enticing atmosphere in which to enjoy the dining experience.

Seated in the courtyard section of the restaurant next to the fireplace, we shared the grilled Italian sausage with fennel for an entree.  Not your cacciatore or other smoked/cured sausage, but wonderfully fresh and herbaceous Italian sausage.  A squeeze of lemon and a little bread to soak up the succulent juices that poured from the sausage.  Could eat that all day 🙂

For mains, my partner and I both opted for a pasta dish.  My wife enjoyed the linguine al la vodka.  Succulent chicken and spinach tossed through linguine, napped with a creamy tomatoey sauce smothered in grated Parmesan cheese.  Generous amounts of flavour in the chicken and sauce will have you coming back time and time again.

My main course, also a pasta dish was the tagliolini con funghi.  All I have to say is – garlic, chilli and sauteed mushrooms all tossed through pasta with a mushroom sauce topped with truffle oil.  Extra chilli please ?? No problem at all sir! Say no more, its heavenly and I have it every time I’m there.

Always space for dessert, but tonight I was forced to share it.  Chocolate mouse with caramelized peanuts and an almond biscotti quill ontop.  Sean the front of house manager, charming as ever,  joined us for a chat and an ice-cold Limoncello to end the night.
