Radio Mexico Restaurant, St. Kilda

Hola ! During a recent business trip to Melbourne, my sister and family took me to a trendy happening Mexican restaurant in the St Kilda area. No reservations, no fuss, no regrets, this is not Tex-Mex….this is Mexican, this is Radio Mexico.

Definitely a happening place, join the taco addicts and sample the delights this restaurant has to offer. Tuesday night and the restaurant is packed, waiting customers spilling out onto the street and bustling staff trying to accommodate the constant stream of evening diners. Thankfully we managed to slip straight into a table of four and was promptly served by our ever smiling waitress. Cocktails are the order of the day, but being a weekday, decided to stick with one of the numerous imported south American beers.

The idea of Mexican is to share. Plenty of small entrees to snack on and share, we chose the guacamole, with “out of this world” CC’s, Tostaditas de jaiba (crispy bite sized tortillas topped ith warm crabmeat, corn salad and avacado. Hot on its heels was the Pork belly al pastor (succulently roasted pork belly with pineapple salsa and served with green rice). Lastly of the shares to arrive was the camarones con poole (prawns and pozole tossed in butter and chipotle served with a green rice).

Onto the business end, we ordered a selection of tacos. Freshly cooked steaming hot tacos topped with beer battered fish, a spicy sauce and slaw. Hard to go past the special pork belly with crackling and slaw topped tacos. Lastly how about some slow cooked organic saltbush lamb, red cabbage and salsa piled high on a soft taco !

I must admit, I’m not normally a Mexcian fan, but tonights meal was certianly an eye opener. A fun, relaxing and delicious night out. I give it a double thumbs up !
